Opportunity at REPSSI - Director of The Africa Psychosocial Support Institute (APSSI)

The Africa Psychosocial Support Institute (APSSI) is a subsidiary of REPSSI. APSSI fosters professionalism and excellence in Mental Health and Psychosocial care and support (MHPSS). This includes the need for standardised PSS definitions, quality research on PSS, excellent PSS resources and MHPSS thought leadership in Africa.

APSSI consists of two arms; (1) Develop and deliver innovative and accredited PSS skills development programmes and qualifications, lead research in mental and psychosocial wellbeing in Africa, stimulate thought leadership in child and adolescent mental health and psychosocial support, develop PSS resources and provide an accreditation service for PSS organizations, programmes and professionals. In this regard, APSSI will coordinate with higher academic institutions in the continent. (2) Raise funds through developing, marketing and providing a range of consultancy services. The Director of APSSI provides strategic leadership to both arms of the Institute.

To be based in Randburg, Johannesburg, the APSSI Director will attract income from a variety of sources of a sufficient level that the Institute will become self-sustaining, and provide an income for REPSSI, after the initial two-year period. The Director will report directly to the REPSSI CEO and APSSI Board of Directors and have direct line-management responsibility for the following functions: Academic programmes;; Marketing and consultancy services; Product development; and Corporate affairs.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Masters degree in Social Sciences, Education or Management or relevant field; 3 years’ senior management experience, including sales and service functions; Strategic leadership; Experienced team leader research and publications ; Proven ability to secure significant funding.

Programme Assistant Internship

REPSSI is inviting young, passionate and highly organized graduates to apply for a paid Programme Assistant Internship for the period July to December 2017. The internship will be hosted within REPSSI’s APSI (Africa Psychosocial Support Institute) Team and based at its Head Office in Randburg, South Africa. Closing date 12 July 2017

REPSSI’s vision is that all girls, boys and youth have the right to enjoy psychosocial and mental wellbeing. REPSSI has strong partnerships with governments (particularly the ministries responsible for social services, education and health), development partners, international organisations and NGOs in thirteen countries of East and Southern Africa.

FOCUS OF INTERNSHIP: § Administrative support to the Senior Technical Specialist: APSI. § Project planning and reporting. § Project document preparation, including contracts and PowerPoint presentations for Course, Development, Delivery & Accreditation and Research. § Electronic Project file/knowledge management for manual development and facilitator endorsement processes. § Learner database management. § Programme workshops and meetings coordination.

WORK STATION/WORKING HOURS: § The intern will work a standard 40-hour week and may be required to work extra hours at busy times. § The intern will be based at the Head Office in Randburg, South Africa, with approximately 20% travel nationally and within the East & Southern Africa region.

REMUNERATION: § R5 000 monthly allowance. REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: § A national diploma/degree in Project Management/Education/Social Sciences. § Proficiency in Microsoft Office. § Excellent ability to read, write and speak English. § No experience required.

The delegates at the PSS Forum comprising of experts from Government Ministries and Departments responsible for Orphans, Vulnerable Children and Youth (OVCY), health, education and skills development from all SADC Member States, civil society and academic partners from 27 countries gathered in Victoria Falls on the 1st to the 3rd of September 2015 under the theme Love, Care and Support, from Infancy to Adolescence.
